Arsenal are ready to trump Liverpool by launching a £25m bid to sign Besiktas centre-back Domagoj Vida during the closing days of the window
The summer transfer window is drawing to a close and managers are working hard to secure last minute deals so we’ll bring you all the latest gossip from around the globe. Today, Arsenal are ready to bid for Liverpool target Domagoj Vida….
Arsenal are ready to trump Liverpool by launching a £25m bid to sign Besiktas centre-back Domagoj Vida during the closing days of the window, according to the Sun via TeamTalk.
Vida only joined Besiktas in January following five years at Dinamo Kiev but he’s become hot-property around Europe after starring for Croatia at the World Cup this summer as he played a key role in helping his country reach their first ever final before eventually losing 4-2 to France.
The 29-year-old’s performances in Russia have attracted interest from the Premier League with TeamTalk carrying a report last week that suggested Liverpool had agreed personal terms with Vida over an initial two-year contract ahead of a possible move to Anfield.
Jurgen Klopp has signed a goalkeeper, two midfielders and a winger so far this summer but the Reds boss has been tipped to strengthen his defence and it seems he’s lined-up Vida as a potential partner for Virgil van Djik.
However, Liverpool haven’t agreed a fee with Besiktas amid speculation their last £19.5m bid was rejected and it looks as though Arsenal are ready to trump their English rivals to the defender’s signature.
TeamTalk are citing a report from the Sun that claims Arsenal are set to launch a £25m bid to sign Vida during the closing stages of the window as Unai Emery looks to further strengthen his defensive options.
The Gunners have already snapped up Sokratis from Borussia Dortmund but the report says Emery wants to sign another centre-back and is ready to sell Shkodran Mustafi to help fund his swoop for Vida.
Mustafi has endured a tough time of things since joining Arsenal from Valencia two years ago and rumours suggest he could be on the market for £22m this summer as the north Londoners look to reshuffle their back four ahead of the new campaign.
We’ll have to wait and see whether Liverpool are prepared to match Arsenal’s offer but the two Premier League heavy-weights could be set to battle it out over Vida’s signature before Thursday night’s deadline.
