Man Utd Make £22.3m Offer To Sign Arsenal Target, Player Wants £12.5m-A-Year Deal

Manchester United have offered to pay just £22.3m for Arsenal target Jerome Boateng but because the defender is demanding a huge £12.5m-a-year contract

There is plenty of Manchester United and Arsenal gossip doing the rounds in the papers with the English giants linked with a whole host of star names ahead of deadline day. Today, United make their move for Jerome Boateng…

Manchester United have offered to pay just £22.3m for Arsenal target Jerome Boateng because the defender is demanding a huge £12.5m-a-year contract, according to the Sun.

Boateng has been one of the best centre-backs in Europe since joining Bayern Munich from Manchester City in 2011 and he’s won 6 Bundesliga titles, 4 domestic cups and the Champions League during his time at the Allianz Arena while he also helped lead Germany to the 2014 World Cup.

However, after seven years in Germany the 29-year-old has made it clear he’s ready for a fresh challenge this summer and Kicker reported earlier this week that Manchester United and Arsenal are among the clubs showing a keen interest in signing Boateng.

Jose Mourinho has made no secret of his disappointment at Man Utd’s transfer business so far as they’ve only signed three players with midfielder Fred the only one considered to be a first team regular.

The United boss is desperate to sign a top class centre-back before the window closes and Boateng has been linked in recent weeks along with the likes of Harry Maguire, Toby Alderweireld and Yerry Mina.

Unai Emery has already splashed out on Sokratis from Borussia Dortmund but with Calum Chambers joining Fulham on loan the Gunners are in the market for another centre-back and Boateng is one of several players being linked.

However, it looks like Man Utd have stolen a march on Arsenal as the Sun are citing a report from Sports Bild that claims the Red Devils have offered to pay £22.3m to take Boateng to Old Trafford before Thursday’s deadline.

The German publication says the reason for the low-ball offer is that Boateng wants a huge contract worth £12.5m-per-season but it looks like United will have to up their bid as the report says Bayern want at least £44m for the defender.

It remains to be seen whether Manchester United will up their offer but it may not do any good even if they agree terms with Bayern as the Mirror claim Boateng has called Mourinho to inform him he has no interest in joining Man Utd.
