Tottenham are facing a battle to sign Stanislav Lobotka after Southampton joined the race to sign the Celta Vigo midfielder by tabling a £21.4m bid

The summer transfer window is drawing to a close and managers are working hard to secure last minute deals so we’ll bring you all the latest gossip from around the globe. Today, Tottenham are battling to sign Stanislav Lobotka….

Tottenham are facing a battle to sign Stanislav Lobotka after Southampton joined the race to sign the Celta Vigo midfielder by tabling a £21.4m bid, according to reports La Voz de Galicia.

Mauricio Pochettino is desperate to further strengthen his squad before the transfer window closes on Thursday night as the frustrated Spurs boss is yet to make a single signing with chairman Daniel Levy failing to land any of his top target so far.

A new midfielder is reportedly on the agenda as Mousa Dembele and Moussa Sissoko are being tipped to leave north London this summer and while Tottenham have been linked with a number of players, Lobotka has emerged as a potential target.

Earlier this week, TeamTalk cited a report from El Desmarque that suggested Tottenham were showing a keen interest in signing the Celta Vigo midfielder and were ready to meet his £31m release clause.

The report said Lobotka was expected to secure a move to White Hart Lane over the coming days but it seems Southampton have made a late play to hijack Tottenham’s proposed move.

Spanish outlet La Vod de Galicia claim the South Coast club have formalised their interest by tabling an opening £21.4m bid but Celta Vigo are holding out for the full value of his release fee.

It remains to be seen whether Southampton will return with an improved offer but their strong interest could now prompt Spurs to step-up their pursuit in the 23-year-old midfielder.

Lobotka only joined Celta from FC Nordsjaelland last summer for £4m but he enjoyed an excellent debut season in La Liga and he’s also now a regular with the Slovakian national team.

We’ll have to watch developments closely over the coming hours but Lobotka could be a shrewd piece of business by Tottenham if they get a deal agreed as he’s considered to be one of the most promising young midfielders in Spanish football.
