Liverpool Or Chelsea Could Sign £50m Target As Boss Hints At Late Move

Liverpool or Chelsea could yet sign Nabil Fekir after Lyon manager Bruno Genesio refused to rule out a late move for the £50-rated midfielder

The summer transfer window is drawing to a close and managers are working hard to secure last minute deals so we’ll bring you all the latest gossip from around the globe. Today, the latest on Liverpool or Chelsea target Nabil Fekir…

Liverpool or Chelsea could yet sign Nabil Fekir after Lyon manager Bruno Genesio refused to rule out a late move for the £50-rated midfielder, according to the Independent.

Fekir has developed in to one of the most in-demand players in Europe in recent years and he enjoyed an excellent campaign last season that saw him provide 23 goals and 8 assists to help Lyon finish third in the Ligue 1 table and qualify for the Champions League.

The 25-year-old was also named in the French squad that went on to win the World Cup this summer and he came close to joining Liverpool shortly before heading out to Russia after a deal was agreed with Lyon in early June.

The proposed transfer collapsed at the 11th hour due to concerns over an old knee injury that was flagged up during his medical but the Mirror claimed earlier this week that Liverpool remain interested and are keeping an eye on the £50m midfielders situation.

The Independent also claim that the Merseysiders could resurrect their interest in Fekir during the closing stages of the transfer window but they could now face stiff competition from Chelsea after they entered the race for his signature.

Fekir didn’t feature during Lyon’s friendly with Chelsea on Tuesday night and the French clubs boss Bruno Genesio hinted after the game that the player could yet leave before the transfer window closes.

Genesio is quoted as saying by the Independent:

“It’s too early to say [what will happen]. He wanted to leave at the end of last season but came back to training yesterday and was happy.

“Who knows? There may be opportunities that come up before the end of the window. For now, he is a Lyon player.”

Fekir only returned to pre-season training on Monday following his extended post World Cup break and while he said he’s happy at Lyon he also admitted anything can happen while the transfer window was still open.

Fekir is quoted by the Independent as saying:

“As you can see, I am in Lyon. I am very good here. But the transfer window is still long and everything goes very fast in football. We do not know what will happen in the future but I am very good at Lyon.”

Liverpool are yet to sign a direct replacement for Philippe Coutinho following his move in January so Jurgen Klopp may decide to launch a late swoop for Fekir in the hope of driving his price down.

However, Chelsea are expected to be extremely active in the transfer market over the next 24 hours and Maurizio Sarri could make a move for Fekir amid speculation Willian wants to leave Stamford Bridge this summer.
