Liverpool Plotting Swoop For £31.7m World Cup Star As Klopp Continues To Strengthen

By on August 26, 2018

The Premier League transfer window may be closed but European clubs can still buy from English teams and managers are planning for the future so we’ll bring you all the latest gossip. Today, Liverpool are linked with Benjamin Pavard…

Liverpool are plotting a move to sign France World Cup star Benjamin Pavard with the Stuttgart defender potentially available for just £31.7m, according to reports via the Mirror.

Pavard joined Stuttgart from Lille in 2016 and played every minute in the Bundesliga last season with his excellent form seeing him named by Dider Deschamps in the France squad ahead of the World Cup finals.

The 22-year-old was a revelation as he made the right-back spot his own and scored one of the goals of the tournament with a stunning volley against Argentina as France went on to win the World Cup in Russia.

It seems his performances haven’t gone unnoticed here in the Premier League as the Mirror are carrying a report that claims Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is eyeing a swoop for the versatile defender.

The report says the Reds boss is planning to keep a close eye on Pavard’s progress in German over the coming campaign ahead of a possible move next summer.

If Liverpool do formalise their interest at the end of the season they could snap-up Pavard for a reasonable price as the Mirror claim he’ll be available for £31.7m if Stuttgart fail to qualify for the Champions League.

Pavard played at right-back for France this summer but has played the majority of his club football as a centre-back so it would be interesting to see what Klopp’s plan would be for him if he moved to Anfield.

Trent Alexandre-Arnold has been impressing at right-back over the past 12 months so Klopp may view Pavard as a potential long-term partner for Virgil van Dijk if Liverpool snap him up next summer.

We’ll have to wait and see how things progress over the coming months but Klopp seems to be building something special at Anfield and Pavard would be another excellent addition to his squad.
