‘Embarrassment’, ‘Retire’- Some Man Utd Fans Slam This Player After Spurs Defeat

A selection of Manchester United fans have slammed this player after his performance during the 3-0 defeat to Tottenham on Monday night.

Manchester United fans slammed Chris Smalling on Twitter following his error during their 3-0 defeat by Tottenham Hotspur.

Jose Mourinho decided to make six changes to the starting eleven that lost at Brighton & Hove Albion last weekend with Smalling among the players recalled to take on Spurs at Old Trafford on Monday night.

The England international started in an unfamiliar back three alongside Phil Jones and Ander Herrera and to be fair Smalling enjoyed an encouraging opening forty-five minutes as United were unfortunate not to be leading at the break.

However, things quickly unravelled after half-time as Harry Kane headed Tottenham ahead in the 50th minute before Lucas Moura made it 2-0 just 2 minutes later to put the north Londoners in control.

United tried to get themselves back in the game but any hope of a late comeback was extinguished when Smalling shocking defending allowed Moura to race through on goal and fire past David De Gea to seal a 3-0 win for Tottenham.

United fans had seen enough and some supporters took to Twitter to call Smalling an ’embarrassment’ while another urged him to ‘retire’ following his poor second half display last night.

Fans also took aim at Jones for his performance with the United supporters in disbelief that Mourinho chose to play both England internationals in such a big game against Tottenham.

The defeat has pilled the pressure on the Portuguese coach as Man Utd have now lost two of their opening three games to a season for the first time in over 25 years and leaves them six points off the top of the table.
