Man Utd Boss Opens Talks With Agent Over Potential Deal To Sign £90m Star

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has called Raphael Varane’s agent to try and secure a deal to sign the £90m-rated Real Madrid centre-back

The Premier League transfer window may be closed but European clubs can still buy from English teams and managers are planning for the future so we’ll bring you all the latest gossip. Today, Man Utd are linked with Raphael Varane…

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has made a personal phone-call to Raphael Varane’s agent to try and secure a deal to sign the £90m-rated Real Madrid centre-back, according to reports via TeamTalk.

Jose Mourinho endured a frustrating summer as executive vice chairman Ed Woodward failed to sign the majority of his main transfer targets with Brazilian midfielder Fred the only significant addition to the first team as Lee Grant arrived as a back-up keeper while Diogo Dalot is a young full-back for the future.

United were reportedly in the market for a top class central defender throughout the summer window with Varane one of several names to be strongly linked with a move to Old Trafford as Mourinho looked to strengthen his defence.

The Manchester giants failed to sign a new centre-back before the window closed and it appears to have cost them as United have lost two of their opening three games for the first time in 25 years and have conceded the most goals [7] after three games since 1969.

Chris Smalling, Phil Jones, Eric Bailly and Victor Lindelof have all been criticised so far this season having made a number of mistakes at the back and it seems Mourinho is already putting plans in place to finally sign a new defender.

After Woodward struggled to get deals over the line this summer, it looks like Mourinho is taking things in to his own hands as TeamTalk are citing a report from Don Balon that claims the Portuguese coach has made a personal call to Varane’s agent to get the wheels in motion over a possible move to Old Trafford.

Varane was a regular under Zinedine Zidane last season but new boss Julen Lopetegui has started Nacho ahead of the French international so far this season and it looks like Man Utd are ready to pounce if the situation continues.

The Spanish publication says any deal to sign Varane would cost United around £90m but Mourinho is desperate to be reunited in Manchester having been the man to sign the defender during his time at the Bernabeu in 2011.

The 25-year-old would be an excellent signing if United could somehow pull it off in January as Varane is one of the best central defenders in Europe but Don Balon are known for their outlandish transfer claims so we should probably take their report with a pinch of salt for now.
