Some fans turned on Granit Xhaka after his error almost cost Arsenal during our thrilling 3-2 victory over Watford at Vicarage Road this afternoon.

Xhaka has split opinion among fans ever since arriving in a big-money deal from Borussia Mönchengladbach in 2016 but it seems a growing number are now tired of the Swiss international’s errors.

The 25-year-old has started every game under Unai Emery so far this season and was once again chosen ahead of Lucas Torreira in midfield against Cardiff at the Cardiff City Stadium this afternoon.

After Shkodran Mustafi had given us an early lead with a fine header, Xhaka lost possession with a wayward pass in first half stoppage time and it led to Cardiff snatching an equaliser just before the break.

The error sparked a backlash from angry fans on Twitter with many slamming the midfielder for his sloppy pass and pointing out this isn’t the first time Xhaka has cost us goals this season [or over the past two years for that matter].

Some fans labelled it a ‘disgraceful pass’ while others said Xhaka is ‘terrible’ and Arsenal’s ‘worst player’. While those insults may be a little harsh, there is no doubt Xhaka’s form has been disappointing and Emery must be close to handing Torreira a start in midfield.

Thankfully we recovered in the second half as goals from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette helped secure a vital 3-2 victory that sends us in to the international break off the back of consecutive wins.
