Tottenham have picked up a major injury concern ahead of Saturday’s clash with Liverpool as Dele Alli has been forced to withdraw from the England squad with a muscle problem, according to the Evening Standard.

Alli started for the Three Lions on Saturday and completed the full ninety minutes as England slumped to a disappointing 2-1 defeat to Spain at Wembley Stadium in their Nations League opener.

However, it’s been revealed that Alli sustained a muscle strain during the match and has now been forced to withdraw from Gareth Southgate’s squad ahead of Tuesday night’s friendly with Switzerland at the King Power Stadium.

The news will be a blow to Southgate as he’s already without the services of Luke Shaw after the Manchester United full-back suffered concussion against Spain and Leicester duo Ben Chilwell and Demarai Gray have been added to the squad for the Switzerland game.

However, Alli’s injury will be a real concern to Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino as the midfielder will be considered a doubt for the visit of Liverpool to Wembley this weekend.

The 22-year-old will return to north London to be further assessed by Tottenham’s medical team and while the injury has been described as ‘minor’, the Evening Standard says no timeline has been set for the midfielders recovery.

We’ll have to wait and see whether Alli manages to recover in time for the visit of Liverpool on Saturday lunchtime but it would be a huge blow for Tottenham if he’s ruled out for any period of time.

The Liverpool clash will be a real test of Tottenham’s title credentials this season as Jurgen Klopp’s men sit top of the Premier League table having taken a maximum 12 points so far, so Pochettino will be desperate to have Alli fit for the game.

However, the Spurs coach won’t want to rush him back too soon as Tottenham face a tough trip to Italy to take on Inter Milan in their first Champions League group stage game next Tuesday.
