Manchester United have been handed a fitness boost as Diogo Dalot looks set to be included in the squad for Saturday’s clash with high-flying Watford.

Dalot is yet to feature for the senior side since joining United from Porto in the summer as he’s been working his way back to full fitness following a knee injury that he sustained during the closing stages of last season.

The 19-year-old returned to training with the rest of the squad last month and made his first appearance for the club during an Under-23 game against Stoke City in which he got a useful 70 minutes under his belt.

The Portuguese star – who’s been hailed by Jose Mourinho as the best full-back in Europe in his age group – is now set to be included in the first team squad for this weekend’s trip to Vicarage Road.

United’s reserves are in action against Reading on Friday night and Dalot took to Twitter to hint at his inclusion with the first team after saying he was ‘getting ready for Saturday’:

Dalot is predominantly a right-back but Antonio Valencia is expected to keep his place against the Hornets while Ashley Young should start at left-back in the absence of Luke Shaw – who’s likely to miss out after suffering concussion during England’s defeat to Spain on Saturday.

With Marcus Rashford suspended following his sending off against Burnley last time out, there are two spaces up for grabs on the United bench so it seems Dalot is set to get his first taste of action with the senior squad this weekend.

United head south to take on unbeaten Watford – who’ve won all four of their games so far this season – with Mourinho hoping to build on the win over Burnley having previously lost consecutive games to Brighton and Tottenham.
