Manchester United and Chelsea are ready to try and sign Aaron Ramsey after talks over a new contract with Arsenal sensationally collapsed, according to the Mirror.

Ramsey has been a key part of Arsenal’s first team in recent years having provided 59 goals and 59 assists in 338 games since joining the club from Cardiff City ten years ago and has scored some important goals to help the club win 3 FA Cup’s.

The Welsh international is in the final year of his contract and the Mirror claims Ramsey has been willing to put pen-to-paper over a new deal with the club also understood to be confident in recent weeks that an agreement would be reached following extensive talks with the player’s agent.

However, the newspaper is one of several outlets reporting today that Ramsey is now set to leave Arsenal after negotiations over a new deal collapsed and the report suggests that Arsenal have now withdrawn their latest offer from the table.

The Mirror says that despite Ramsey’s willingness to commit his future to the north London club, no contract offer is currently available for him to sign after talks completely broke down so Arsenal are set to lose one of their key players for nothing just months after turning down a £50m offer in the summer.

There will be no shortage of takers and the report says that Manchester United and Chelsea are showing a keen interest in signing Ramsey while Juventus and Lazio are ready to try and lure him to Italy.

The 27-year-old will be able to sign a pre-contract agreement with foreign club from January 1st but Ramsey could be tempted to stay in the Premier League if the likes of Man Utd and Chelsea put sizeable offers on the table.

Both clubs have the financial firepower to pay the Welshman big money and it would be a major coup for United or Chelsea if they were able to land one of the best goal-scoring midfielders around on a free transfer.

As for Arsenal, it will highlight once again their failure to secure their top players to long-term contracts as they were forced to sell Alexis Sanchez after failing to agree a new deal with the Chilean while Mesut Ozil ran his contract down to the final 6 months before signing a lucrative deal in January.

If no agreement is reached with Ramsey over the coming weeks then Arsenal may try and cash-in this winter rather than lose him for nothing but the likes of United and Chelsea may opt to wait until the summer to snap him up for free.
