Liverpool Confirm Fresh Injury Concern As Klopp Sweats On 5 Men Ahead Of Huddersfield

Liverpool have confirmed a fresh injury blow with Jurgen Klopp now sweating over the fitness of five players ahead of their trip to Huddersfield

Liverpool have confirmed Sadio Mane is a doubt to face Huddersfield Town this weekend after undergoing surgery on a hand injury that he sustained while away on international duty.

Mane picked up the problem during Senegal’s African Cup of Nations qualifying win over Sudan last weekend and was forced to sit out the return fixture in Khartoum earlier this week after initial scans revealed he had broken his thumb.

The 26-year-old flew back to Merseyside on Tuesday and Liverpool have confirmed on Liverpoolfc.com that Mane has gone under the knife at a hospital in the north-west of England in order to correct the problem with the successful procedure overseen by club doctors.

The attacker will be closely monitored by medical staff over the coming days but Mane is now considered as a doubt for Liverpool’s Premier League clash with Huddersfield Town on Saturday afternoon.

Jurgen Klopp is also sweating over the fitness of several other key players ahead of their trip to the John Smith’s Stadium with Mohamed Salah returning from international duty with Egypt carrying a groin injury.

Naby Keita was also forced off during Guinea’s clash with Rwanda on Tuesday after suffering a hamstring injury and the midfielder is a major doubt for Liverpool’s game with Huddersfield this weekend.

Defender Virgil van Dijk will also need to be assessed after returning home early from international duty with Holland due to an on-going rib injury that’s hampered the centre-back in recent weeks.

The final player in danger of missing the trip to Huddersfield is James Milner as the midfielder is nursing a hamstring injury that he sustained against Manchester City earlier this month.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is obviously still unavailable as he continues to recover from a serious knee injury but there is some good news for Klopp as Adam Lallana is pushing for a place in the squad after recovering from a groin problem.
