Romelu Lukaku looks set to miss Manchester United’s Champions League trip to Juventus but Marouane Fellaini and Antonio Valencia trained today ahead of the game.

Lukaku had been virtually ever present for United this season before sitting out the 2-1 victory over Bournemouth at Dean Court on Saturday lunchtime after suffering a muscle injury in training late last week.

The Belgian international is still being assessed by medical staff to determine the full extent of the injury but it seems the striker is certain to miss Wednesday night’s Champions League clash in Turin.

United held an open training session in front of the media on Tuesday morning and according to ESPN journalist Rob Dawson, Lukaku wasn’t involved with the rest of the first team squad at Carrington.

The Manchester giants will fly out to Italy this afternoon and it appears highly unlikely Lukaku will be on board the plane unless Jose Mourinho feels the striker can make a miraculous recovery over the next 24 hours.

However, there was more positive news on Fellaini as the midfielder was able to take part in the training session as he looks to return having missed the last five matches with a groin injury that he sustained while away with the Belgian squad during last months international break.

In what could be a double boost for United, Valencia was also back in full training this morning as he bids to overcome a muscle injury that kept him out of the trip to the South Coast at the weekend.

Mourinho suggested last week that Valencia wasn’t particularly close to returning to action so unless he’s made huge progress over the past few days, I’d be surprised if he was among the travelling squad this afternoon.

However, Fellaini may be involved as Mourinho would no doubt love to have the Belgian international as an option in the middle of the park as United head to Turin looking for a much-needed win in Champions League Group H.
