‘I Can’t See How Utd Win’ – Sky Sports Pundit Predicts Score For Man Utd vs Arsenal
Paul Merson has offered his prediction ahead of Manchester United’s clash with Arsenal and has backed his former side to take home all three points.
Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson has offered his prediction ahead of Manchester United’s clash with Arsenal and has backed his former side to take home all three points.
United had to come from behind to salvage a 2-2 draw with Southampton at the weekend with goals from Romelu Lukaku and Ander Herrera cancelling out Stuart Armstrong and Cedric Soares’s early goals to earn the visitors a point.
However, the result has left United sitting seventh in the Premier League table and eight points adrift of fourth-placed Arsenal so Jose Mourinho’s side desperately need a win to boost their hopes of qualifying for the Champions League.
They’ll be up against an in-form Arsenal side that extended their unbeaten record to 19 games in all competitions with an impressive 4-2 win over Tottenham at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Another victory for Unai Emery’s side tomorrow night would open up an 11 point advantage over United and Merson says he just can’t see how the Manchester giants can win this game unless they make significant improvements or Arsenal drop their level.
The former Arsenal attacker and now Sky Sports pundit believes Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette will cause United ‘all sorts of problems’ if Emery plays them both up front tomorrow and he’s backed the north Londoners to take home a 2-1 win.
Writing in his column for Sky Sports, Merson said:
In the past we’ve seen Arsenal go to Old Trafford in form, play well but somehow still end up losing the game. However, unless Manchester United really pick their game up or the Gunners hit a brick wall after their efforts against Tottenham, I just can’t see how United win. I really can’t!
I hope Unai Emery plays the side that finished the game against Tottenham, playing two up front with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette because that will cause United all sorts of problems.
When United got back to 2-2 at Southampton on Saturday there should have been only one winner. However, they just didn’t kick on and it was like they were grateful to be back level at 2-2. We’ve got to remember this a different Man Utd to the one we used to watch. It’s the same club but the players are nowhere near in the same calibre. That’s the problem and that’s something we have to keep reminding ourselves. This is not the United of old and if they somehow managed to get in the top four they’d be pulling up trees.
PAUL PREDICTS: Man Utd 1-2 Arsenal
Defeat against Arsenal at Old Trafford would pile the pressure on Mourinho’s shoulders so the Portuguese coach will pray Merson’s prediction doesn’t prove to be accurate.
