“Must Win” – Sky Sports Pundit Predicts Scores For Liverpool & Man Utd Games

Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson has offered his predicted scores for Manchester United’s clash with Fulham and Liverpool’s trip to Bournemouth this weekend.

The weekend action kicks-off with Liverpool heading to the Vitality Stadium to take on Bournemouth and Jurgen Klopp’s men can leapfrog Manchester City in to first place with a win ahead of their rivals trip to Chelsea later in the day.

The Reds maintained the two point gap from City after coming from behind to beat Burnley 3-1 at Turf Moor on Wednesday night so with Pep Guardiola’s side facing a tough game at Stamford Bridge, Liverpool can’t pass up this opportunity to put the pressure on.

They’ll face a Bournemouth side that sit seventh in the table after beating Huddersfield in midweek but Merson feels they were fortunate to get the three points and is backing Liverpool to secure a vital 3-1 win on Saturday lunchtime.

Writing in his column for Sky Sports, Merson said:

Bournemouth vs Liverpool

Liverpool have got to somehow stay on the heels of Manchester City. It’s probably Manchester City’s hardest game this weekend so Liverpool have to make sure they win.

I thought Bournemouth were very fortunate against Huddersfield. I fancied Bournemouth to win quite comfortably. They did win the game in the end but I do not know how? I have to side with Liverpool for an away win.

PAUL PREDICTS: 1-3

Following the game at the Vitality Stadium, Man Utd welcome Fulham to Old Trafford at 3pm tomorrow and Jose Mourinho is under growing pressure to get their season back on track.

There were positive signs during the hard fought 2-2 draw with Arsenal in midweek but that result has still left United sitting eighth in the table and eight points off the top four so Merson feels this is a ‘must win’ game for United.

They have the perfect opportunity as they’ll take on a Fulham side sitting bottom of the table and Sky Sports pundit Merson believes United will ease to a routine 2-0 win over Claudio Ranieri’s men tomorrow afternoon.

In his Sky Sports column, Merson continued:

Man Utd vs Fulham

I see a return to winning ways for Manchester United against Fulham at Old Trafford. However, if they do not win this game Jose Mourinho will do well to keep his job come Monday. If they can’t beat Fulham at home where are they going?

At the moment we are talking about it being a feat if they get into the top four so this is a must-win game. If they don’t win the game I would be shocked if Mourinho was there on Monday.

I don’t see it coming to that though because if there was one team you’d pick to play it would be Fulham. They did alright against Chelsea but it was just okay, they were never going to win. Fulham have improved under Claudio Ranieri since his arrival but they have to start winning games soon. It won’t be this weekend though.

PAUL PREDICTS: 2-0

We’ll have to wait and see if Merson’s predictions prove accurate but it would be a huge win for Liverpool if they could beat Bournemouth while victory over Fulham would certainly ease the pressure on Mourinho’s shoulders.
