Klopp Issues Update After Liverpool Suffer Triple Injury Concern Ahead Of Man Utd
Liverpool suffered a triple fitness concerns ahead of their Premier League clash with Manchester United. Here is an update.
Liverpool suffered a triple fitness concerns ahead of their Premier League clash with Manchester United after Joel Matip, James Milner and Trent Alexander-Arnold all picked up knocks on Tuesday night.
Alexander-Arnold required treatment from the Liverpool medical team during the closing stages of their dramatic 1-0 victory over Napoli at Anfield last night which sealed their progress to the knockout stages of the Champions League.
The England international needed to be replaced by Dejan Lovren in the 90th minute after suffering a foot injury and Klopp says the full-back is in pain and will be assessed further at Melwood today.
Milner was also substituted towards the end of the game last night with the versatile midfielder limping off to be replaced by Fabinho in the 85th minute. The 32-year-old will also be checked over by Liverpool staff today but Klopp is hopeful it was nothing more than cramp.
Matip was involved in a heavy collision during the dying seconds of the 1-0 win at Anfield and Sky Sports claim the centre-back was taken to hospital immediately after the final whistle for tests on a shoulder injury.
Speaking to reporters shortly after the match, Klopp said he was unaware of Matip’s condition so was hoping that was a positive sign that the defender hasn’t suffered any serious injury ahead of their clash with Man Utd.
Klopp told Liverpoolfc.com:
“I’m not sure. Nobody told me anything about [Joel’s] shoulder, so hopefully that’s a good sign.
“Trent got a knock on his foot, we are not sure about what exactly it is. It is painful,”
“Millie [Milner] had cramps – I hope it was only cramp. That was it, I don’t know anything else.”
Liverpool were understandably celebrating their win last night as it booked their place in the last 16 of the Champions League but Klopp will be sweating over the fitness of Alexander-Arnold, Milner and Matip ahead of the United game on Sunday.
With Joe Gomez out with a fractured leg, Alexander-Arnold is the first choice right-back so Klopp will be praying he’s available to face Man Utd while Matip has started the last three matches alongside Virgil van Dijk in the middle of defence.
