Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has included Angel Gomes and James Garner in his provisional 21-man Manchester United squad ahead of their clash with Cardiff City on Saturday.

Solskjaer was confirmed as United’s caretaker manager until the end of the season after Jose Mourinho was sacked earlier this week following a disastrous opening half to the new season that’s left them sitting sixth in the table – 11 points off the top four.

The former striker has promised to bring attacking football back to Old Trafford following months of poor performances and vowed to continue the clubs long history of giving youth a chance.

It looks like Solskjaer has already stuck to his word as the 45-year-old has included youngsters Garner and Gomes in the travelling squad that flew out of Manchester airport this afternoon ahead of Saturday’s Premier League clash with Cardiff.

Garner and Gomes have both been impressing for the United youth team this season and it looks like Solskjaer is ready to give the teenagers a crack at proving themselves in the first team this campaign.

However, there was no sign of Chris Smalling so it looks like he’s been ruled out after aggravating a foot injury during the warm-up before last weeks 3-1 defeat to Liverpool while Antonio Valencia was also not spotted boarding the plane to Cardiff today.

Scott McTominay was also not involved with the travelling party as he continues to nurse a knock and Romelu Lukaku has been given some time off for compassionate leave but United have been boosted by the return of Luke Shaw as he has travelled after overcoming a minor back problem.

Here is the confirmed squad, according to the Manchester Evening News.

David de Gea, Sergio Romero, Lee Grant, Diogo Dalot, Eric Bailly, Victor Lindelof, Phil Jones, Ashley Young, Luke Shaw, Marouane Fellaini, Nemanja Matic, Ander Herrera, Fred, James Garner, Paul Pogba, Andreas Pereira, Angel Gomes, Juan Mata, Jesse Lingard, Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial
