Roberto Firmino scored a hat-trick as Liverpool thrashed Arsenal 5-1 at Anfield to move nine points clear at the top of the Premier League table.

Arsenal snatched a surprise lead in the 11th minute when Ainsley Maitland-Niles converted at the far post but Liverpool hit back immediately when an attempted clearance deflected off Mohamed Salah and fell kindly for Roberto Firmino who tapped in to an empty net for 1-1.

Just a minute later and Liverpool had the lead as Firmino waltzed his way through the Arsenal defence before slotting past Bernd Leno for 2-1 and Sadio Mane then made it 3-1 in the 32nd minute.

The hosts were then awarded a penalty in first half stoppage time when Sokratis bundled Salah over in the box. The Egyptian international blasted home the resulting spot kick for 4-1 at the break.

Liverpool were given another penalty midway through the second half when Sead Kolasinac was adjudged to have pushed Dejan Lovren. Firmino made no mistake from the spot to complete his hat-trick and make it 5-1.
