The Premier League have announced the nominations for the December Player of the Month award with stars from Liverpool, Chelsea, Tottenham and Manchester United among those in the running.

Liverpool enjoyed a faultless December with Jurgen Klopp’s side storming clear at the top of the table after winning all seven of their league games and Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk have been rewarded with nominations for the POTM award.

The reds duo will be up against Man Utd striker Marcus Rashford, Tottenham duo Hueng-min Son and Harry Kane, Chelsea attacker Eden Hazard and West Ham’s Felipe Anderson.

Here is a closer look at how each of the seven nominees got on last month:

Mohamed Salah (LIV) P7 W7 D0 L0 G6 A4: The Egyptian international continued to be a central figure for Liverpool as he scored 6 goals and set-up another 4 for his team-mates to help the Merseysiders maintain their perfect record in December.

Virgil van Dijk (LIV) P7 W7 D0 L0 G1 A3 CS4: Van Dijk has proven to be a sensational signing for Liverpool and he was a colossus at the back last month to help Klopp’s side keep 4 clean sheets and concede just 3 goals in their 7 matches. He also popped up with a goal against Wolves to help Liverpool stay top of the table.

Son Heung-min (TOT) P7 W5 D0 L2 G6 A3: The Spurs attacker enjoyed a superb month after scoring 6 goals and providing another 3 assists to help Tottenham maintain a title challenge.

Harry Kane (TOT) P7 W5 D0 L2 G6 A2: Tottenham’s talisman Harry Kane continued his prolific goal-scoring form by netting 6 times in his 7 appearances last month while he also created a further 2 goals to help Spurs win 5 of their 7 games to keep the pressure on the top two.

Eden Hazard (CHE) P7 W5 D0 L2 G3 A5: Hazard was once again a key player for Chelsea last month as he scored 3 goals and provided 5 assists in his seven appearances to help the Blues maintain their push for the top four with 5 wins and 2 defeats.

Marcus Rashford (MUN) P7 W4 D2 L1 G3 A5: Rashford really found some form during the latter stages of December when Ole Gunnar Solskjaer took over from Jose Mourinho with the England international providing 3 goals and 5 assists in his 7 appearances.

Felipe Anderson (WHU) P7 W5 D0 L2 G4 A1: Anderson played a key role in helping West Ham to their best-ever month in the Premier League with the Brazilian attacker scoring 4 times as the Hammers won 5 of their 7 matches.

Given Liverpool’s perfect record last month you’d have to say Salah or van Dijk are the favourites to win the award but Son was excellent for Tottenham so I’m sure he’ll push the Reds duo close.

Fans can vote for their winner with the votes combined with those of the 20 club captains and a panel of football experts to decide the winner, which will be revealed at some point next week.
