Star tells club he wants £160k-a-week move to Man Utd but £90m deal may be delayed

Kalidou Koulibaly has informed Napoli he wants to join Manchester United this month but a proposed £90m deal is likely to be delayed until the summer

The January transfer window is open and managers are working hard on strengthening their squads and identifying targets for the summer so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest rumours. Today, the latest on Kalidou Koulibaly’s proposed move to Man Utd

Kalidou Koulibaly has informed Napoli he wants to join Manchester United this month but a proposed £90m deal is likely to be delayed until the summer, according to reports via TeamTalk.

Koulibaly has developed in to one of the best centre-backs in world football since joining Napoli in 2014 and his impressive performances have reportedly caught the attention of several top European clubs.

Man Utd are among those who’ve been strongly linked with a swoop for the Senegalese international and speculation suggests Koulibaly has emerged as their first choice target as the Manchester giants look to finally land a top class defender.

Jose Mourinho was left frustrated by United’s failure to sign a new centre-back in the summer but the new regime is determined to get a deal over the line and Koulibaly is on their radar despite signing a new long-term contract with Napoli in September.

TeamTalk claim Man Utd have renewed their attempts to sign the 27-year-old and are willing to double his wages to £160,000-a-week ahead of a deal that would be worth around £90m – a world-record fee for a defender.

The report cites the Metro as claiming that Koulibaly has now informed Napoli he wants to move to Old Trafford this month, however, the Italians are determined not to sell in January so the proposed move may be delayed until the summer.

The newspaper says United will continue to try and push through a deal this month but Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis is adamant Koulibaly will not be sold mid-season as he feels the club can win the Europa League this campaign.

We’ll have to wait and see how things develop over the coming weeks but Koulibaly is a world class defender who would be a huge upgrade on the likes of Chris Smalling and Phil Jones, so he’d be worth waiting for if United were forced to delay the deal until the summer.
