Gonzalo Higuain is travelling to London to undergo his medical and complete a loan move to Chelsea ahead of their Carabao Cup clash against Tottenham

The January transfer window is in full swing and managers are working hard on strengthening their squads and identifying targets for the summer so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest rumours. Today, Gonzalo Higuain is on his way to Chelsea

Gonzalo Higuain is travelling to London to undergo his medical and complete a loan move to Chelsea ahead of their Carabao Cup clash with Tottenham, according to Sky Sports News.

Maurizio Sarri has been looking to strengthen his attacking options this month as Olivier Giroud has struggled in front of goal this season having scored just once in the Premier League while Alvaro Morata is being tipped for a move to Atletico Madrid after a mixed spell at Stamford Bridge.

Higuain has been strongly linked with a move to Chelsea in recent weeks with widespread reports suggesting the West Londoners have been locked in talks about bringing the South American to England this winter.

The 31-year-old is currently on loan at AC Milan from Juventus but he’s struggled for form in recent months having found the net just once in his last 12 appearances leading to speculation his spell at the San Siro could be cut short.

Higuain was left out of the Milan squad for their win over Genoa on Monday with boss Gennaro Gattuso admitting the Argentinean international had made it clear he wants to leave the club for Chelsea.

Milan reached an agreement to sign Genoa hitman Krzysztof Piatek on Tuesday night and that has paved the way for Higuain to complete his move to Chelsea with Sky Sports News claiming the Blues have agreed terms over an initial six-month loan with an obligation to extend the deal by a further 12 months if certain conditions are met.

Sky Sports claim Higuain is now travelling to London to undergo his medical and Italian journalist Michael Cuomo has shared a photograph of the striker leaving Milan’s Linate airport earlier this morning:

Chelsea now face a race against time to get the deal wrapped-up by midday in order to have him registered and available for selection against Tottenham in their Carabao Cup semi-final second leg on Thursday night.

The move will see Higuain once again link-up with Sarri having played under him at Napoli where he arguably played some of his best football having scored 36 goals in 35 Serie A games during the 2015/16 season.
