Liverpool will be looking to cement their position at the top of the table with a win when they welcome Leicester City to Anfield on Wednesday night.

Ahead of the game, Jurgen Klopp has been speaking to the media at his pre-match press conference this afternoon and he’s provided a team news and injury update including the latest on the fitness of several players.

The Reds boss was pleased to offer a positive update on the condition of Virgil van Dijk as it looks as though the Dutch international defender will be available for selection tomorrow.

Van Dijk picked up an illness bug while the Liverpool squad were away on a warm-weather training camp in Dubai last week and reports in the papers suggested that he was a major doubt to face Leicester.

However, Klopp has confirmed van Dijk was able to train on Monday and will be assessed at training this afternoon but it sounds like the centre-back should be in contention against the Foxes on Wednesday night.

There was also positive news on Georginio Wijnaldum as the midfielder has been in training after recovering from a knee injury so he should be back in the squad tomorrow while Dejan Lovren is also available for selection after missing the last two games with a hamstring injury.

Liverpool could have further good news as Klopp confirmed that Fabinho is due to resume training today after a bout of illness so the Brazilian international may also be available to face Leicester.

Trent Alexander-Arnold is also edging closing to fitness as he looks to return from a knee injury but Klopp says tomorrow night’s game will come too soon for the full-back.

Klopp told Liverpoolfc.com:

“Virg was a little bit ill, but he trained yesterday and will train today, so we will see.

“Dejan [Lovren] is fine, Gini trained [and] Fabinho will train today.

“Trent is getting closer and closer and it all looks very positive, but he will not be ready for tomorrow.”

The only other absentees are Joe Gomez and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain so Liverpool have a reasonably healthy squad as they look to at least maintain their four point lead over Man City with a win over Leicester.
