Man Utd want to sign £90m star as Red Devils target four new summer signings

Manchester United have identified £90m-rated Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly as a prime target as the Red Devils target four new signings this summer

The January transfer window is closed but managers are still looking ahead to the summer so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip from around the globe. Today, Man Utd eye Kalidou Koulibaly as part of a summer splurge…

Manchester United have identified £90m-rated Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly as a prime target as the Red Devils look to land four new signings this summer, according to the Mirror.

United have turned their season around since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer took over as caretaker manager following Jose Mourinho’s exit back in December and the Norwegian coach is favourite to become the permanent boss at the end of the season.

The Manchester giants remain unbeaten domestically under Solskjaer but United are facing an exit from the Champions League at the last-16 knockout stage after being beaten 2-0 by Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday night.

The defeat to the Ligue 1 champions was something of a reality check for Man Utd and the Mirror claims that executive vice-chairman Ed Wooward is ready to invest in the squad this summer to turn the club in to genuine title contenders again.

The newspaper says United are hoping to sign four new players with a new centre-back still the priority after they failed to strengthen that position last summer while another left-back, right-back and right winger are also on the agenda.

Koulibaly has been linked with a move to Old Trafford for some time and the Mirror says United hope to finally land the Napoli centre-back after making him their first choice defensive target this summer.

The 27-year-old has developed in to one of the best defenders in the world over the past few years so he’d be an excellent signing but the report says Napoli will demand a whopping £90m to sell the Senegalese international.

United are one of the few clubs who could afford to pay that kind of money and Koulibaly would certainly be an upgrade on the likes of Phil Jones and Chris Smalling if he was to make a move to Old Trafford this summer.

The Mirror claims that Atletico Madrid defender Lucas Hernandez and Fiorentina star Nikola Milenkovic are other defensive targets for United while winger Douglas Costa could emerge as a realistic option in attack amid speculation he may leave Juventus at the end of the season.
