“Worst player in the world” – Some fans slam Arsenal ‘fraud’ after BATE defeat

Some Arsenal fans have slammed Granit Xhaka for his performance during Thursday night’s embarrassing 1-0 defeat to BATE Borisov in the Europa League.

We flew out to Belarus as the red-hot favourites to bring home a comfortable result against a BATE side that hadn’t played a competitive game since December and that we scored 10 goals against over two games last season.

However, the Arsenal players produced one of their worst performances of the season to slump to a shock 1-0 defeat which leaves us needing to turn things around in the second leg at the Emirates to reach the last-16.

Arsenal started well and should have opened the scoring during a dominant first twenty minutes but Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Alexandre Lacazette both missed excellent chances.

We were made to pay as BATE broke the deadlock on the stroke of half-time when Stanislav Dragun headed home following poor marking by Sead Kolasinac from a free-kick.

Arsenal dominated possession for long periods but struggled to create anything of note and a lack of service from midfield to Lacazette and substitute Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was a real problem throughout the game.

Lacazette’s frustrations boiled over late on after he was sent off for throwing a stray elbow and it capped a disastrous night for Arsenal that will go down as one of our worst European defeats in recent history.

Pretty-much the entire team was poor on the night but Xhaka has come under particular scrutiny from some fans after a woeful performance in the middle of the park.

The Switzerland international was booked after just 8 minutes, had no positive affect on the game and infuriated fans with a succession of corners that failed to even beat the first man.

Fans have vented their frustrations on social media and one supporter has claimed Xhaka is the worst football player in the world while another branded him a ‘fraud’ following his abject display against BATE.
