Chelsea closed the gap on the top four to just two points with a hard fought 2-1 victory over Fulham at Craven Cottage this afternoon.

The Blues started brightly and opened the scoring midway through the first period when Gonzalo Higuain – who was recalled to the side after being benched for the win over Tottenham – swept home a sweet volley from a Cesar Azpilicueta cross to make it 1-0 in the 20th minute.

Fulham responded well and levelled things up just seven minutes later when on-loan Arsenal defender Calum Chambers fired home at the far post following a 27th minute corner to make it 1-1.

However, Chelsea didn’t take long to restore their lead and it was a fine goal as Jorginho passed the ball in to the top corner from the edge of the area to make it 2-1 following a fine team move.

Fulham pushed for an equaliser but Chelsea held on to secure a much-needed 2-1 victory that sees them move to within one point of Arsenal and two off fourth-placed Manchester United with a game in hand.
