Paul Merson thinks it will be an exciting game when Arsenal entertain Manchester United on Sunday afternoon and has predicted a 2-2 draw at the Emirates Stadium.

United head to north London sitting fourth in the Premier League table following their 3-2 comeback victory over Southampton last weekend so they’re in pole position to take the final Champions League qualification spot.

However, Arsenal are just one point behind in fifth after drawing 1-1 at Tottenham last Saturday so a win for the Gunners would see them leapfrog Man Utd into fourth with a favourable fixture list to come during the run-in.

We can’t forget Chelsea as they are just two points behind United and one adrift of Arsenal with a game in hand but no doubt the game at the Emirates on Sunday will go a long way to determining who finishes in the top four this season.

Man Utd will be on a high following their stunning win over PSG in the Champions League while Arsenal will be looking to bounce back after slumping to a disappointing 3-1 defeat to Rennes in the Europa League last night.

Arsenal have conceded 39 times in their 29 league games so far this season while United have let in 38 goals so understandably Merson is predicting there will be plenty of goal-mouth action this weekend.

The Gunners have an excellent home record and United have won their last nine away games so it’s going to be an interesting game and Merson has predicted the two giants will play-out an entertaining 2-2 draw.

Writing in his column for Sky Sports, Merson said:

Arsenal vs Man Utd

Wow, this is a big game. Again, both teams will be wanting to get into the top four, but they will also want a buffer for the other European places. I see nothing but goals in this football match – both teams turning up, having a go. Arsenal look like they are playing with a real bit of confidence, they were unlucky against Tottenham and probably should have won the game.

And Man Utd – what a result against PSG. It was unreal – as simple as that. I thought they did well and there’s a saying that if you can stay in the game, you never know what can happen. I thought the manager was fortunate because he got it horribly, horribly wrong in the first 20 minutes with Eric Bailly playing at right-back. They’re very fortunate that they weren’t out of the tie before he made the substitutions. It was a phenomenal football result and with the players they had, who all turned up – bar Bailly, who had an absolute shocker.

I can’t say it will decide fourth place with Chelsea there. It’s in Chelsea’s hands really but I think whoever lost the game would be in trouble so it’s a massive game. I think both teams will have a go at each other and there will be goals.

PAUL PREDICTS: 2-2

A draw wouldn’t be devastating for either Arsenal or Man Utd but it would be the ideal result for Chelsea as they could open-up a three-point lead in fourth if they beat Wolves this weekend and then also win their game in hand.
