Tottenham issue Harry Kane injury update after striker limps off against Man City

Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino provided an update on Harry Kane after the striker limped off during the 1-0 win over Manchester City on Tuesday.

Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino provided an update on Harry Kane after the striker limped off with an ankle injury during the 1-0 Champions League win over Manchester City on Tuesday night.

Kane once again lead the line up front for Spurs during their quarter-final first leg at the New Tottenham Hotspur Stadium but the hitman went down clutching his ankle following a strong challenge on Fabian Delph.

The Tottenham talisman was on the wrong end of some rough treatment from the City players during the game but Kane came off worse after going in hard on Delph in the 55th minute.

After receiving treatment from the Tottenham medical team, Kane was helped off the pitch and headed straight down the tunnel after being replaced by Lucas Moura and he was seen leaving the stadium on crutches with a protective boot on his left leg.

Pochettino offered an update on the striker after the game and the Spurs boss admitted they are fearing Kane has suffered another ankle ligament injury which could rule him out for the remainder of the season.

Pochettino is quoted as saying by the Guardian:

“I am worried he will miss the rest of the season. We hope it’s not a big issue and he can recover as soon as possible but it doesn’t look good. If you see the action, it shows he twisted his ankle and maybe damaged the ligaments again. We will check in the next few days. It is so painful but what can we do?”

Kane is expected to undergo a scan to determine the full extent of the injury once the swelling goes down but Pochettino is clearly fearing the worst and it would be a huge blow for Tottenham if their star man was ruled out for the rest of the campaign.

Spurs are in a fierce battle with Arsenal, Manchester United and Chelsea to finish in the top four of the Premier League this season while they have put themselves in a strong position to progress to the semi-finals of the Champions League.

Despite losing Kane last night, Tottenham went on to secure a first leg advantage with Hueng-min Son scoring the winner in the 78th minute to give Spurs a 1-0 lead heading into next week’s second leg at the Etihad.

We’ll have to wait and see how serious Kane’s injury is once the scan results come back but if the worst fears are confirmed, it would be the fifth time he’s suffered ankle ligament damage in three seasons.

The most recent problem came back in January when Kane damaged his left ankle against Manchester United and it lead to a six-week lay off. The 25-year-old hurt the same ankle last night so Kane’s season would likely be over if ligament damage is confirmed.
