Arsenal and Tottenham are among the clubs ready to do-battle with Manchester United over the signing of £60m-rated Leicester City defender Harry Maguire this summer, according to The Sun.
Maguire has enjoyed a meteoric rise since coming through the youth set-up at Sheffield United as he enjoyed three years at Hull City before joining Leicester City in a £17m deal in the summer of 2017.
The 26-year-old has developed into one of the best centre-backs in the Premier League over the past two years and he’s also cemented himself as a regular in Gareth Southgate’s England side having impressed at last summer’s World Cup finals.
His form in Russia led to speculation linking Maguire with a move to Old Trafford last summer after Jose Mourinho reportedly identified him as a potential signing but the defender ended up staying at the King Power.
However, another impressive campaign has seen Maguire’s stock rise even further and The Sun claims that Man Utd are ready to renew their pursuit as new boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer plots to overhaul his squad this summer.
The Norwegian coach initially replaced Mourinho in December on an interim basis but he earned the full-time position and it looks like the United owners are ready to back Solskjaer in the transfer market as they attempt to build a side capable of competing for trophies next season.
Maguire could be the ideal partner for Victor Lindelof at Old Trafford, however, United will now face stiff competition as The Sun claims that Arsenal and Tottenham are also in pursuit of the centre-back while Chelsea could also be in the race if they manage to get their transfer ban suspended by the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
Arsenal’s problems in defence are well documented and Unai Emery desperately needs a commanding presence at the back to shore things up with Shkodran Mustafi enduring another poor campaign and Maguire could be viewed as the ideal replacement.
Tottenham are also being tipped to enter the market for another central defender as Toby Alderweireld is expected to leave this summer and it seems Mauricio Pochettino is now eyeing a move for Maguire.
The Sheffield-born defender would be an excellent addition for any of the big clubs chasing him but The Sun claims Leicester will demand £60m for his signature so the likes of United, Arsenal and Tottenham will have to dig deep if they’re to get a deal agreed.
