Man Utd in talks to sign £40m Tottenham target but player eyes dream Liverpool move

Manchester United have held talks over the signing of Tottenham target Ryan Sessegnon but the £40m-rated Fulham star is desperate to join Liverpool

Managers are making plans for the summer transfer window so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip from around the globe. Today, the latest on Ryan Sessegnon’s future…

Manchester United have held talks over the signing of Tottenham target Ryan Sessegnon but the £40m-rated Fulham star is desperate to join Liverpool, according to the Express.

Sessegnon has emerged as one of the hottest properties in British football since breaking into the Fulham first team in 2016 and he played a key role in helping the club gain promotion to the Premier League last season.

The 18-year-old made 35 appearances this campaign – providing two goals and six assists – but it wasn’t enough to save Fulham from relegation straight back down to the Championship after they finished 19th in the table.

Sessegnon is now fully expected to leave Craven Cottage for a bigger club this summer and Sky Sports News claim that Manchester United have opened talks with Fulham over a potential deal for the England U21 international.

The news outlet says that Tottenham are also among the clubs who’ve been strongly linked with Sessegnon and Mauricio Pochettino may view the versatile wide-man as a potential replacement for Danny Rose – who’s been tipped to leave Spurs this summer.

However, Sky Sports claim that United are the only club to have made formal contact with Fulham to open negations so it seems the Manchester giants have stolen a march on their rivals.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is gearing-up for a busy summer as he looks to overhaul the squad he inherited from Jose Mourinho after finishing sixth in the table this season and he’s reportedly looking to sign young players who can develop further rather than established stars so Sessegnon fits the bill perfectly.

However, United may be set for disappointment as the Express claim that sources close to the player have informed them that Sessegnon’s dream is to join boyhood club Liverpool which could scupper Man Utd’s hopes of luring him to Old Trafford.

Sessegnon has been linked with a move to Liverpool in the past and while Jurgen Klopp isn’t expected to formalise his interest in the player this summer, the teenage star knows he’s highly unlikely to ever play for the Merseysiders if he joins arch rivals Man Utd.

The Express suggest this is one of the main reasons Sessegnon favours a move to Tottenham this summer if he can’t get his dream transfer to Liverpool, while a switch to Spurs would also allow him to remain in the capital near his family and play in the Champions League.

The newspaper says Fulham are demanding around £40m for Sessegnon’s signature but interested clubs may look to drive that price down as he has just one year remaining on his contract.

So as it stands, it seems Sessegnon’s preference is Liverpool >Tottenham > Man Utd. If Klopp doesn’t make a move for the player this summer then Sessegnon will lean towards Spurs as this will allow him to join Liverpool at some point in the future.

I’m sure there will be plenty more twists and turns before Sessegnon’s future is resolved but I think he’d be an excellent signing for whoever ends up winning the race for his signature this summer.
