Liverpool are ready to renew their interest in signing Nabil Fekir with Lyon confirming they will cash-in on the attacking midfielder this summer

Managers are working hard trying to strengthen their squads during the summer transfer window so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip from around the globe. Today, Liverpool are boosted in their pursuit of Nabil Fekir…

Liverpool are ready to renew their interest in signing Nabil Fekir with Lyon confirming they will cash-in on the attacking midfielder this summer, according to the Mirror.

Fekir came within hours of sealing a reported £53m move to Liverpool prior to the World Cup last summer before the proposed deal collapsed at the eleventh hour due to concerns over an old knee injury that was picked up during the medical.

The French international has continued to impress in Ligue 1 with Fekir contributing 12 goals and 9 assists in his 39 appearances in all competitions this season to help Lyon secure Champions League qualification.

However, the 25-year-old may not be around to help them compete in Europe’s elite competition next season as Fekir has been strongly linked with a move away this summer and Lyon have now confirmed the attacker will be sold over the coming weeks.

Speaking after Lyon’s 3-2 win over Nimes on Friday night, president Jean-Michel Aulas confirmed they have an agreement with Fekir to let him leave the club this summer.

Aulas is quoted by the Mirror as saying:

“Effectively, Nabil is outside [of the two departures expected], because we have an understanding that he can go.

“Thanks Nabil for bringing what he brought, we have an understanding to let him go.”

It seems this news will be of interest to Jurgen Klopp as the Mirror claims that Liverpool are expected to renew their pursuit of Fekir this summer despite pulling out of the proposed deal 12 months ago.

Klopp is being tipped to bring in another versatile attacker to compliment his already formidable front-line and it seems Fekir could be viewed as a potential replacement for Xherdan Shaqiri – who’s been linked with a move away from Anfield.

Fekir is predominantly an attacking central midfielder but he’s also capable of playing out on the wing so the 21-cap French international would give Klopp another very useful option in the final third if he does end up joining Liverpool this summer.
