Managers are working hard trying to strengthen their squads during the summer transfer window so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip from around the globe. Today, Arsenal are linked with Mario Gotze…
Arsenal are eyeing a swoop to sign Mario Gotze with the attacking midfielder considering a move away from Borussia Dortmund this summer, according to reports in Germany via the Mirror.
Gotze came through the youth ranks at Dortmund and has made almost 200 appearances for the first team over two separate spells at the Westfalonstadion having spent three years at Bayern Munich between 2013-2016.
The 26-year-old has just one year remaining on his current contract and was initially expected to sign an extension, however, Gotze is now having second thoughts over his future, if reports are to be believed.
The Mirror are citing Bild as claiming that Gotze is considering a move away from Dortmund this summer and the attacking midfielder could be available in cut-price deal if he doesn’t commit his future to the Bundesliga giants soon.
The German publication says Arsenal are keeping a close eye on Gotze’s situation with a view to making a formal offer and suggest we’d be willing to meet his wage demands if a deal could be agreed with Dortmund.
However, any possible transfer will probably depend on Arsenal winning the Europa League final against Chelsea tonight and being able to offer Gotze Champions League football next season.
Unai Emery is going to be operating on a tight budget this summer – especially if we don’t win the Europa League – so the Mirror suggest we may have to offload some players to help boost the transfer kitty with Mesut Ozil and Henrikh Mkhitaryan named as possible departures.
Aaron Ramsey is joining Juventus when his contract expires next month so Emery certainly needs to add more creativity to the Arsenal squad this summer and it seems Gotze is on his radar.

The German star is predominantly an attacking central midfielder but he can play out on the wing or even as a ‘false 9’ up front so his versatility would be a very useful asset if he did move to Arsenal this summer.
