Arsenal in advanced talks to sign £26m Man Utd target on a 5-year deal
Arsenal are in advanced talks to sign Thomas Meunier ahead of Manchester United and have offered the £26m-rated PSG full-back a five-year contract
Managers are working hard trying to strengthen their squads during the summer transfer window so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip from around the globe. Today, Arsenal are closing-in on Man Utd target Thomas Meunier…
Arsenal are in advanced talks to sign Thomas Meunier ahead of Manchester United and have offered the £26m-rated PSG full-back a five-year contract, according to reports in Italy via TeamTalk.
Unai Emery is expected to be extremely busy in the transfer market this summer as he looks to overhaul the squad he inherited from Arsene Wenger and improving the defence is a priority after Arsenal conceded 51 Premier League goals this season.
A new right-back is on the agenda as Stephan Lichtsteiner and Carl Jenkinson are set to leave the Emirates this summer and Emery needs competition for Hector Bellerin after being forced to use midfielder Ainsley Maitland-Niles on the right while the Spaniard has been out injured.
Meunier has emerged as a potential target with the Mirror carrying a report earlier this week that claimed Arsenal have joined Manchester United in the race to sign the Belgian international this summer.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is in the market for a new right-back as Antonio Valencia has left Old Trafford and the Daily Mail claim United have opened initial talks over a deal to sign Meunier after identifying him as a cheaper alternative to Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
However, it looks like the Gunners have now overtaken Man Utd in the race to sign Meunier as TeamTalk are citing Nicolo Schira as claiming Arsenal are now in advanced negotiations to sign the right-back from PSG.

The Gazzetta Dello Sport journalist says a 5-year contract has been offered to the player and Arsenal and PSG are now expected to finalise a deal with TeamTalk suggesting Meunier will cost around £26m.
Emery knows the Belgian star well from his time managing PSG where they won the Ligue 1 title together and it appears they could now be set for a reunion in north London with Meunier confirming in the past he wants to play in the Premier League.
The 27-year-old has just one year remaining on his contract and has so far refused to sign an extension so PSG are set to cash-in as boss Thomas Tuchel has plenty of cover with Thilo Kehrer and Colin Dagba both competing for the right-back berth.
We’ll have to see how things progress over the coming days but while there is still time for Man Utd to step-up their pursuit of Meunier, it seems Arsenal are in pole position to sign the defender this summer.
