Manchester United are leading Liverpool and Tottenham in the race to sign Bruno Fernandes amid reports they’ve made a £71m offer for the Sporting Lisbon midfielder, according to reports via The Sun.

Fernandes has become one of the most in-demand players of the summer after coming off the back of a stunning campaign with Sporting Lisbon that saw him contribute 32 goals and 18 assists in 53 games to earn a reputation as one of the most productive attackers in the world.

The 24-year-old has attracted plenty of interest from the Premier League with Portuguese outlet Record reporting recently that Man Utd, Liverpool and Tottenham are all chasing the attacking midfielder this summer.

Jurgen Klopp is expected to further strengthen his squad after winning the Champions League and the Liverpool boss could view Fernandes as the man to give them the edge over Manchester City in the title race next season.

Tottenham are gearing-up for a busy summer and Mauricio Pochettino could be eyeing Fernandes as a potential replacement for Christian Eriksen after he hinted he’s ready for a fresh challenge this summer.

However, it appears Liverpool and Spurs may have some catching up to do as The Sun are citing Sports Media Set journalist Pietro Balzano Prota as claiming that Manchester United are in pole position to sign Fernandes.

This news comes after Portuguese newspaper Jornal de Noticias, via talkSPORT, reported earlier this week that United have submitted an offer worth £71m [€80m] including add-ons for the attacker – which is around £13m [€15m]more than Tottenham have put on the table.

We’ll have to wait for further developments over the coming days and there is still time for the like of Liverpool and Tottenham to step-up their interest but it appears United are currently leading the chase to land Fernandes and I think he’d be an excellent signing.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer needs to overhaul his squad this summer and he’s already snapped-up winger Daniel James from Swansea but Fernandes would be a real coup as he’s one of the best attacking midfielders in Europe right now.

However, the Portuguese international’s arrival at Old Trafford would fuel speculation surrounding the future of Paul Pogba with the Frenchman strongly linked with a move away from United this summer.
