Joachim Andersen has fuelled talk of a possible move to Arsenal or Tottenham after admitting he’s in talks to leave Sampdoria this summer, according to a report in the Mirror.
Andersen has developed into one of the best young centre-backs in Italian football since joining Sampdoria from FC Twente in 2017 and he’s tipped to have a big future on the international stage having represented Denmark at various youth levels.
The 23-year-old’s potential has caught the attention of clubs here in the Premier League with the Mirror claiming that Arsenal and Tottenham have both expressed their interest in bringing Andersen to England.
The north London duo have now been handed a major boost as Andersen has admitted now might be the right time for him to leave Sampdoria as he looks to further his career at one of Europe’s top clubs.
Andersen also confirmed his agent is in transfer talks with a number of interested parties and a decision over his future will be made soon, although he stopped short of naming any of the clubs he’s in discussions with.
The defender is quoted by the Mirror as telling Goal:
“It could be time for me to further my career. I have loved my time in Sampdoria but maybe it’s time to move on to develop further.
“There are a number of interesting clubs from Europe’s biggest leagues who are discussing with my agent and I’ll be making a decision shortly together with my family and my agent.
“I have dreams of playing in the biggest clubs in the world and the biggest leagues in the world”.
Arsenal are in the market for defensive reinforcements after conceding 51 Premier League goals last season and Unai Emery needs to find a long-term replacement for Laurent Koscielny – who has just one year left on his contract and has been linked with a move away from the Emirates this summer.
Tottenham are also expected to sign a new centre-back as Toby Alderweireld continues to be linked with a move. The Belgian international has 12 months left on his deal and is available for a cut price due to a clause in his contract.
It appears the north London duo are eyeing a swoop for Andersen but they’ll need to be prepared to dig deep if they want to get a deal agreed as Football London suggest the defender will cost around £32m.
Not only that, but Arsenal and Spurs could also face stiff competition from AC Milan as Andersen is being tipped to follow manager Marco Giampaolo to the San Siro so it’s going to be interesting to see where he ends up.
