Talks underway: Liverpool, Man Utd & Chelsea battle to sign South American star
Manchester United, Chelsea and Liverpool have all expressed an interest in bringing Barcelona flop Philippe Coutinho back to the Premier League
Managers are working hard trying to strengthen their squads during the summer transfer window so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip from around the globe. Today, the chase for Philippe Coutinhio hots-up…
Manchester United, Chelsea and Liverpool have all expressed an interest in bringing Barcelona flop Philippe Coutinho back to the Premier League this summer, according to reports.
Coutinho enjoyed a five-year spell with Liverpool at Anfield before making a big-money move to Barcelona in January 2018 but his time at the Nou Camp has been something of a nightmare as he’s struggled to live up to his price-tag.
The Brazilian international was booed by sections of his own fans at times last season and Barcelona have been tipped to cash-in on Coutinho as they look to balance the books ahead of the impending arrival of Antoine Griezmann from Atletico Madrid.
The playmaker – who’s currently away with Brazil at the Copa America – admitted earlier this week that he may leave Barca this summer and it’s led to speculation of a sensational return to the Premier League.
According to Le10Sport, Manchester United and Chelsea have expressed their interest in signing Coutinho while the French publication says Liverpool are also eyeing a sensational reunion with their former star.
Italian journalist Tancredi Palmeri – who works for beIN Sports – has also claimed on Twitter that United and Chelsea have been joined by Paris Saint-Germain in opening talks with Barcelona over Coutinho – although he doesn’t mention Liverpool as being in the race.
Manchester United, Chelsea and PSG have all contacted Barcelona for Coutinho
(who meanwhile, in spite of scoring a brace, has so far played horribly in Copa America)

Chelsea’s hopes of signing Coutinho rely on them successfully overturning their transfer ban so it’s difficult to see the Londoners being able to land the South American anytime soon but Man Utd have the resources to pull-off what would be a stunning coup.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer desperately needs to overhaul his squad after they finished sixth last season and signing Coutinho would be a real statement of intent if they could lure him to Old Trafford.
However, it’s Liverpool’s reported interest that’s the most intriguing. Jurgen Klopp never really replaced Coutinho following his exit 18 months ago and the Reds boss is being tipped to sign another attacker this summer.
Barcelona still owe Liverpool a portion of the transfer fee they agreed in January 2018 so the Merseysiders may have leverage to get a good deal but it remains to be seen whether Coutinho will be open to a move back to Anfield.
It’s going to be interesting to see how this story develops over the coming weeks but I wouldn’t be surprised to see Coutinho on the move this summer and it looks like United, Liverpool and possibly Chelsea are ready to battle it out over his signature if he wants to return to England.
