Bid imminent: Arsenal confident fresh £20m offer will secure deal to sign 22y/o star

Arsenal are expected to table an improved £20m offer for Kieran Tierney in the next 48 hours and are confident it will be enough to secure a deal

Managers are working hard trying to strengthen their squads during the summer transfer window so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip from around the globe. Today, the latest on Arsenal’s move for Kieran Tierney…

Arsenal are expected to table an improved £20m offer for Kieran Tierney in the next 48 hours and are confident it will be enough to secure a deal with Celtic, according to the Daily Record.

Unai Emery is looking to strengthen his defence this summer after Arsenal conceded 51 goals in 38 Premier League games last season and our woeful defensive record ended up costing us a place in the top four and the Europa League trophy.

Left-back appears to have been identified as an area of concern as Nacho Monreal is 33 and spent much of last season playing on the left side of a back three. Sead Kolasinac impressed going forward as a wing-back but he’s been poor defensively when playing left-back in a back four so Emery wants to sign a long-term replacement who can fill both positions.

Tierney has emerged as a prime target and the Daily Record says Arsenal are expected to test Celtic’s resolve with an improved offer worth in the region of £20m within the next 48 hours after seeing an opening £15m bid rejected last week.

The Scottish newspaper says Celtic have been demanding closer to £25m for the 22-year-old’s signature this summer but Arsenal are confident £20m will be enough to get a deal agreed with the SPL champions.

Hoops boss Neil Lennon has admitted they are expecting bids for Tierney but insists they will only sell if the price is right. On Tierney, Lennon is quoted by the Daily Record as saying:

“I would be surprised if we didn’t get bids, given the calibre of the player. Then we may have a decision to make.

“Even if they are mid-table clubs in England, they have plenty of money and they are playing in the Premier League. I would be surprised if there wasn’t bid for a number of players here.

“Would they be difficult to turn down? It depends what the bid is. There’s big money being quoted for players down there and Kieran is as good as them, if not better.”

Tierney is currently recovering from a double hernia operation but he’s expected to be fully fit by the start of the new season and it looks like he could be kicking off the new campaign in the Premier League.

The Scottish international is a product of the Celtic youth system and is a boyhood fan of the club but he needs to progress his career and the Daily Mail says he’s asked Celtic to be allowed to speak to other clubs if formal offers come in.

We’ll have to wait and see whether an improved £20m offer will be enough to get a deal agreed but I think Tierney would be an excellent signing for Arsenal if we manage to get this proposed transfer over the line.
