Arsenal to hold talks with agent as Emery eyes £7m swoop, player wants move

Arsenal will hold talks with Eray Comert’s agent this weekend as Unai Emery eyes a £7m swoop for the Basel centre-back this summer

Managers are working hard trying to strengthen their squads during the summer transfer window so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip from around the globe. Today, Arsenal are linked with Eray Comert….

Arsenal will hold talks with Eray Comert’s agent this weekend as Unai Emery eyes a £7m swoop for the Basel centre-back this summer, according to the Daily Mail.

Emery is yet to make a signing in this window but the Arsenal boss is expected to make a number of new additions to his squad before the start of next season after failing to qualify for the Champions League.

Defensive reinforcements are needed as Arsenal conceded 70 goals in all competitions last season – 51 in the Premier League – and a new centre-back is on the agenda amid speculation surrounding the futures of Shkodran Mustafi and Laurent Koscielny.

Arsenal have been strongly linked with William Saliba and Joachim Andersen in recent weeks but a new name has been put forward as the Daily Mail claims we’re now showing a keen interest in Basel centre-back Eray Comert.

The newspaper says Arsenal chiefs are due to hold talks with the 21-year-old’s agent in Switzerland on Saturday to discuss a potential move to north London with Basel ready to cash-in if £7m is put on the table.

Comert has spent time in London working on his fitness this summer with former Great Britain sprinter Dwain Chambers but is currently with the Basel squad at their pre-season training camp in Munich.

The youngster came through the youth ranks at Basel and made 31 appearances for the first team last season but the Daily Mail says the defender is now keen to secure a move to Arsenal this summer if the two clubs can agree a fee.

Comert is highly-rated in his homeland and has captained Switzerland at U21 level so he looks to have a bright future ahead of him but it remains to be seen whether he’d be ready to command a regular starting spot at Arsenal just yet.

We’ll have to wait and see how talks go this weekend but I expect Emery seems Comert as one for the future and not an immediate answer to our defensive problems if we do end up signing him this summer.
