Manchester United have stolen a march on Arsenal and Liverpool after making a £36m bid to sign highly-rated Dinamo Zagreb midfielder Dani Olmo, according to reports in Croatia via AS.
The 21-year-old came through the youth ranks at Barcelona before joining Zagreb in 2015 and he’s established himself as a key player since breaking into the first team three years ago having contributed contributed 12 goals and 9 assists last season.
That form led to Olmo winning the Croatian young player of the year award while he’s also made his mark on the international stage as he scored the winner for Spain in the Under-21 European Championship final against Germany at the weekend.
The youngsters huge potential has caught the eye of teams here in the Premier League as Croatian newspaper Sportske Novosti claims Man Utd, Arsenal and Liverpool have all expressed their interest in Olmo while the likes of Bayern Munich, PSG, Borussia Dortmund and Inter Milan are also in the race for his signature.
Arsenal are desperate to strengthen their squad this summer after missing out on the top four while Liverpool are only expected to make subtle changes after winning the Champions League but it looks like both clubs are eyeing a move for Olmo.
However, it seems Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has stolen a march on their rivals as Sportske Novosti, via Spanish outlet AS, says Man Utd have now submitted an opening £36m bid to sign Olmo this summer.
Solskjaer has wasted no time overhauling his squad following a disappointing campaign that saw United finish sixth in the league as he’s already splashed out on right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka and winger Daniel James.
But the Norwegian coach is reportedly in the market for a midfielder as Marouane Fellaini and Ander Herrera have left in recent months while Paul Pogba is being linked with a move away from Old Trafford this summer.
It appears Olmo is on United’s radar and it would certainly be something of a coup if they could win the race for his signature with so many of Europe’s top clubs reportedly chasing the attacking midfielder.
