Manchester United and Liverpool will put forward formal proposals to sign Bruno Fernandes during meetings with his agent in England this week, according to Portuguese outlet A Bola.

Fernandes has been one of the most talked about players of the summer window so far after enjoying a sensational campaign with Sporting Lisbon that saw him provide a staggering 32 goals and 18 assists in all competitions last season.

The 24-year-old has been strongly linked with a move to the Premier League with Manchester United and Liverpool among the clubs believed to have expressed their interest in signing the Portuguese international.

Man Utd appeared to be the front-runners with widespread reports earlier this week suggesting that Liverpool and Tottenham had pulled out of the race and Gazetta dello Sport journalist Nicolo Schira claimed on Wednesday that United had even agreed personal terms with Fernandes.

However, those reports are premature, if A Bola are to be believed, as the Portuguese publication claims Liverpool and Spurs remain in the hunt along with Man Utd to sign the attacking midfielder this summer.

The report says Fernandes’s agent, Miguel Pinho, is due to arrive in England today to hold face-to-face talks with the English trio and listen to their respective ‘concrete’ offers – which he will take back to present to Sporting Lisbon.

A Bola do suggest that Man Utd are in pole position to sign Fernandes but it seems Liverpool, and indeed Tottenham, are still very much in the running to land the sought-after midfielder this summer.

The report claims none of the Premier League clubs are willing to pay above £49m [£55m] for Fernandes so Sporting may have a tough decision to make as the Mirror says their asking price is at least £53m.

There is so much speculation about Fernandes circulating in the media right now and I have a feeling most of it is being leaked by the players agent to try and drum up as much interest as possible in his client.

Man Utd do appear to be showing the most serious interest and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is known to be in the market for a midfielder but it remains to be seen whether the Red Devils will end up luring Fernandes to Old Trafford.

We’ll keep an eye out for more information over the coming days as no doubt there will be more rumours flying about and at this point, it’s anyone’s guess where Fernandes will end up if he does leave Sporting Lisbon this summer.
