From Spain: Arsenal favourites ahead of Tottenham to sign £45m-rated star

Arsenal are in pole position ahead of Tottenham to sign out-of-favour Real Madrid midfielder Dani Ceballos on an initial loan deal this summer

Managers are working hard trying to strengthen their squads during the summer transfer window so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip from around the globe. Here, Arsenal are favourites to sign Dani Ceballos…

Arsenal are in pole position ahead of Tottenham to sign out-of-favour Real Madrid midfielder Dani Ceballos on an initial loan deal this summer, according to reports.

Ceballos joined Madrid from Real Betis in 2017 as one of the most exciting youngsters in Spanish football but the midfielder has struggled to establish himself as a first team regular under Zinedine Zidane having made just 13 league starts last season.

Madrid are working hard overhauling their squad this summer and Ceballos has reportedly been informed he’s not part of Zidane’s plans for the upcoming campaign so he’s expected to leave the Bernabeu in search of regular football.

The 22-year-old has no shortage of suitors having starred for Spain to help them win the U21 European Championships this summer and Sky Sports News claimed recently that Tottenham were in talks with Madrid to sign the youngster.

Mauricio Pochettino has already splashed out a club record fee on Tanguy Ndombele but the Tottenham boss is seemingly still in the market for another midfielder amid doubts over the future of Christian Eriksen and Ceballos has been identified as a possible replacement.

However, it looks like Spurs could miss out as Marca claim Arsenal are in pole position ahead of Tottenham to sign the Spanish midfielder with The Sun suggesting Unai Emery is hoping to land Ceballos on an initial loan deal.

Emery has a limited transfer budget after failing to qualify for the Champions League so a loan with an option to buy next summer would suit the Gunners if they could agree such a deal with Real Madrid.

Ceballos confirmed after the U21 Euro 2019 final that he needs to leave Madrid to play regular football with Sky Sports quoting him as saying:

“I think [Zinedine] Zidane will have seen the tournament. But we all know what he thinks.

“I would like to try out something new: next year, my goal is to play 40 games and play in the Euros.”

Spanish outlet AS claim Madrid value Ceballos at £45m [€50m] but Arsenal can’t afford to pay that this summer as Emery needs to use his reported £45m kitty to sign a left-back, centre-back, midfielder and a winger.

A loan deal may suit all parties and I think Ceballos would be an excellent signing for Arsenal if they could pull it off as the Spaniard would be an excellent replacement for Aaron Ramsey following his free transfer move to Juventus.
