Arsenal will make a fresh offer for Kieran Tierney after Celtic knocked back our latest bid for Unai Emery’s prime left-back transfer target, according to the Daily Record.

The boss is desperately trying to strengthen his squad ahead of the new season and he’s seemingly keen to bring in a new left-back due to on-going doubts over Nacho Monreal and Sead Kolasinac but a tight budget is hampering his progress during negotiations.

After seeing an opening bid rejected by Celtic, the Daily Record says the Scottish champions have now knocked back Arsenal’s latest £25m offer due to concerns over the structure of the deal.

The newspaper says Celtic were unhappy with the amount of add-ons we included in the offer as they want the vast majority of the payment up front plus the Glasgow giants are demanding a sell-on clause is included in Tierney’s contract.

The Daily Record says Arsenal will table another offer but won’t go above £25m so we’ll hope to negotiate a different payment structure to finally get a deal agreed for the the 22-year-old left-back.

However, that still might not be enough as Neil Lennon has today suggested that Celtic feel Tierney should be worth more than Aaron Wan-Bissaka – who joined Manchester United for £50m earlier in the summer.

The Hoops boss is quoted as saying by the Metro:

‘We can’t do anything about what clubs do in England. £50m for Wan-Bissaka is a lot of money and we feel that Kieran is a far more experienced and rounded full-back at this juncture in his career.

‘He’s an asset for us and we do have a value for the player and we rate the player very highly. So disrespectful is the wrong word but we’re certainly not going to be pushed over in any negotiations, and we’re in a very strong position with regard to a number of our assets in the team.’

‘The club’s valuation of Kieran has not been met and until then we don’t have a discussion to make. I don’t know what Arsenal’s financial state is.

‘I know what ours is and we are quite comfortable with the situation at the moment. There has been a second bid, the bid has been rejected and it’s as you were.’

Obviously Arsenal are not going to pay anywhere near £50m for Tierney and rightly so. The Scottish international is a fine player and has done extremely well in the SPL but Scottish football is nowhere near the standard of the Premier League.

Wan-Bissaka was the best right-back in England last season and there is always a premium for English players so Lennon is mad if he thinks Celtic can compare Tierney with Man Utd’s new defender.

The Daily Record says Emery has other targets lined-up and will walk away from the deal if Celtic reject Arsenal’s next offer so it will be interesting to see what happens if/when our next bid is put on the table.
