Arsenal on verge of signing Serie A star, player spotted at Emirates

We’re now at the business end of the summer transfer window and managers are working hard trying to strengthen their squads so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip from around the globe. Here, Arsenal are linked with Sami Khedira…

Arsenal are close to signing Sami Khedira and the Juventus midfielder was photographed at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday afternoon, according to Tancredi Palmeri via the Express.

Khedira has enjoyed an illustrious career having won a whole host of trophies during stints at Real Madrid and Juventus but the 32-year-old’s future at the Serie A champions is in serious doubt this summer.

New boss Maurizio Sarri has brought in Aaron Ramsey and Adrien Rabiot to bolster his midfield options head of the new campaign so Khedira is going to find regular first team football hard to come by next season.

Juventus are looking to trim their squad and Gianluca Di Marzio claimed at the weekend that Khedira has been made available for transfer with the Italian journalist stating that Arsenal, Valencia and Fiorentina have all expressed their interest in signing him.

The German international then fuelled speculation linking him with a move to Arsenal after being spotted in the directors box during the Emirates Cup defeat to Lyon on Sunday afternoon.

It appears a move could now be on the verge of completion as journalist Tancredi Palmeri – who works for beIN Sports and Gazzette dello Sport – claims Khedia is now close to joining Arsenal from Juventus.

He simply tweeted:

“Khedira close to join Arsenal”

No further details of this supposed transfer have been provided by Palmeri but it would be an intriguing move if Arsenal do end up signing the experienced German midfielder this summer.

Unai Emery recently signed Spanish U21 midfielder Dani Ceballos on loan from Real Madrid so the boss wasn’t expected to be in the market for any more midfielders – unless one of our current squad is heading for the exit door.

Mohamed Elneny has been linked with a move recently so perhaps Emery has lined-up Khedira as a replacement? He only has a year left on his contract so he should be available at a reasonable price.

However, I’d still be surprised if anything came of these rumours as Khedira would command a huge salary for what could be his last big contract and Arsenal are actively looking to reduce the wage bill.
