Sky Sports: Player set to undergo medical after Arsenal agree club record deal

Nicolas Pepe has agreed to join Arsenal and will undergo his medical this week ahead of a club record £72m move from Lille, according to Sky Sports

We’re now at the business end of the summer transfer window and managers are working hard trying to strengthen their squads so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip from around the globe. Here, Nicolas Pepe is set to undergo his medical with Arsenal

Nicolas Pepe has agreed to join Arsenal and will undergo his medical this week ahead of a club record £72m move from Lille, according to Sky Sports News.

Unai Emery has been looking to sign a wide attacker all summer and the Arsenal boss switched his focus to Pepe after failing to agree terms with Crystal Palace over a deal for Wilfried Zaha.

The BBC were one of numerous media outlets to report on Saturday that Arsenal were set to sign Pepe after agreeing a deal with Lille worth £72m [€80m] and had seen off competition from Napoli to secure his signature.

The French Press Association then reported on Sunday that the Ivory Coast international had opted for a move to the Emirates after being offered a contract worth around €8m-per season and they expected an announcement to be made by Tuesday.

Now, Sky Sports News are the latest outlet to confirm that Pepe has agreed to join Arsenal and they say the attacker will undergo his medical in north London within the next few days.

An update on their transfer centre at 15.25 said:

Nicolas Pepe is expected to have a medical at Arsenal within days. Sky Sports News understands a deal has been agreed with Lille and that the player has also agreed to join Arsenal. It’s expected the 24-year-old winger will be an Arsenal player this week.

With so many leading news agencies reporting similar things, it’s safe to say Arsenal fans can start to get excited as Pepe will be an excellent addition to the squad if we can get the proposed deal over the line.

The 24-year-old has become one of the most dangerous attackers in Europe having contributed 23 goals and 12 assists in all competitions for Lille last season. In fact, only Pepe and Lionel Messi provided at least 20 goals and 10 assists last campaign so he’s in elite company.

The Ivorian is predominantly a right-winger but he’s comfortable playing anywhere across the front three so his versatility will be a very useful asset for Emery to have in the squad.

French outlet RMC Sport are claiming that an announcement over the deal is now ‘imminent’ so Pepe should be unveiled as an Arsenal player soon in what will be a club record deal with the attacker becoming our fourth signing of the summer.
