Tottenham will be aiming to build on last weeks draw with Man City when they take on Newcastle United at the new White Hart Lane on Sunday afternoon.

Ahead of the game, Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino has been speaking to the media at his pre-match press conference this morning and he’s provided a full team news and injury update.

Pochettino has confirmed to TottenhamHotspur.com that Tanguy Ndombele has been ruled out of this weekend’s clash with Newcastle after the summer signing picked up a minor thigh injury. The news will be a blow as Ndombele had made an encouraging start to life in north London since arriving from Lyon.

However, there is more positive news on Dele Alli as the attacking midfielder could return to the squad on Sunday after returning to full training following a hamstring injury that kept him out of Tottenham’s first two matches.

Pochettino says they will assess Alli during the final training session on Saturday before a final decision is made over his availability but the 23-year-old should be fit for a place on the bench at least this weekend.

Poch is quoted as saying by Football London:

I think we have one training session more and then we decide [on Alli].

Tottenham have also been boosted by the return of Hueng-min Son as the South Korean international is available again after serving his three-match suspension that was carried over from last season.

Son was dismissed against Bournemouth in Tottenham’s penultimate league game and missed the final match of the 2018/19 campaign against Everton as well as the opening two games of this season against Aston Villa and Man City.

However, the attacker is now free to make his first appearance of the new campaign versus Newcastle this weekend and Son is expected to be given an immediate recall by Pochettino.

Juan Foyth has also completed his own three-match suspension but the Argentinean defender is still unavailable as he’s recovering from an ankle injury that he sustained during pre-season.

Summer signing Ryan Sessegnon is also still on the sidelines with a hamstring injury that he was nursing when he completed a £25m move from Fulham earlier this month so he won’t feature against Newcastle.

Pochettino may be reluctant to change things too much following Tottenham’s morale-boosting draw at City last time out but the likes of Jan Vertonghen, Ben Davies, Lucas Moura and Eric Dier are all pushing for recalls if he decides to freshen things up.
