[Video Goals] Liverpool 3-1 Newcastle: Mane scores brace as Reds maintain 100% record

Liverpool maintained their perfect start to the new season with Sadio Mane scoring twice during a 3-1 comeback victory over Newcastle this afternoon.

Liverpool maintained their perfect start to the new Premier League season with Sadio Mane scoring twice during a 3-1 comeback victory over Newcastle United this afternoon.

It was a slow start from the league leaders after the international break and Newcastle took full advantage with Dutch full-back Jetro Williems lashing home a superb strike to give Steve Bruce’s side an early lead.

However, Liverpool grew into the game and levelled things up midway through the first half when Mane curled home a stunner into the top corner after good work from Andy Robertson to set him up.

Mane was at it again before half-time as the Senegalese international was on hand to tap home for 2-1 in the 38th minute after Newcastle goalkeeper Martin Dubravka spilled a through-ball from Roberto Firmino.

The visitors pushed for an equaliser but it always looked like Liverpool would be the team to score again and they put the game to bed in the 72nd minute when Mohamed Salah slotted home after being found by a superb backheel from Firmino.

The 3-1 win means Liverpool have now won all five of their opening games and have extended their lead over Manchester City to five points ahead of their clash with Norwich this evening.
