The Best Young Players In The Premier League This Season
A look at five of the most exciting young talents currently playing in the Premier League including James Maddison and Trent Alexander-Arnold.
In the last couple of years, many Premier League teams have shifted their focus on their youth systems and developing young talent from within. And considering the current market prices for an average player, the decision is pretty logical. We are living in a period where an average defender costs at least £50 million.
The pressure on the best clubs in England for winning the title has never been bigger. There are a lot of rivalries and fans have never been more eager for the season. Even sports betting sites are reporting record-breaking bets on the PL winner. And it is fair to mention that there are a lot of contenders for the title.
This year, the focus is on some young, up-and-coming players that have proven themselves to be a quality asset for their teams. Yes, there were some excellent transfers with players like Harry Maguire moving to big clubs, but the real potential this season are the young players. With that being said, which of these young players have been labelled as players with a very bright future?
Leicester have put some effort into their youth academy in the last couple of years. This 22-year-old playmaker has impressed everybody with his style of play. There are a lot of big clubs which are interested in Maddison because he has shown great potential. This youngster is proving to be a vital player for Leicester, and he is surely one of the best young talents in the Premier League.
This youngster gained popularity after having a great season at Crystal Palace. Every big team in England was keen on signing the right-back, but in the end, Manchester United paid £50m to snap him up. Expectations are high for Wan-Bissaka, because he showed great potential with his previous team, and judging by the start of the new season, he will have a bright future at Manchester United.
Trent Alexander-Arnold has shown that he is a vital part of Liverpool’s team. At just 20 years, he was one of the players that provided crucial assists to Liverpool’s front three during their Champions League win last season. During the 2018/2019 campaign, the right-back clocked 22 assists, more than any other player. He started the new season strongly and he is yet to reach his full potential.
Tammy Abraham started his youth career in Chelsea, in 2014. He was loaned to Bristol City, Swansea, and Aston Villa to develop his skills, and during his time in the three clubs, he showed exceptional potential. Abraham scored 60 goals in 127 games that he played, which is great, considering that he is now 21. He has started the 2019/2020 season strong, scoring 7 goals in 5 games and he single-handedly destroyed Wolverhampton during a 5-2 win last week.
At 19 years of age, Phil Foden has been a part of the English youth national team since he was 15. He made his debut for Manchester City in 2017, and since he has Pep Guardiola as his manager, this young player is destined to shine. So far, he had 19 appearances for the senior team and he even bagged one goal. There is no doubt that under Pep’s guidance, Foden will be an amazing player in the upcoming seasons.
