[Video goals] Man Utd 1-1 Arsenal: Aubameyang scores in poor quality draw at OT

By on September 30, 2019

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored an equaliser as Arsenal came from behind to draw 1-1 with Manchester United in a game of poor quality at Old Trafford.

United were on top early on but it was Arsenal who almost broke the deadlock when Bukayo Saka’s shot was saved by David De Gea and the Spaniard did well to deny Matteo Guendouzi on the follow-up.

It was a turning point in the game as Man Utd broke up the other end following the resulting corner to open the scoring with Scott McTominay finding the top corner from the edge of the area via a slight deflection off Sokratis.

The two sides struggled to build any meaningful attacks and relied on mistakes from each-other in a game of low quality that was a million miles away from the title battles we used to see between them.

Arsenal improved after the break and grabbed an equaliser when Aubameyang was sent clear by Saka before a delightful chip over De Gea found the back of the net in the 58th minute. The linesman put his flag up but the VAR intervened as the Arsenal hitman was well onside so the goal stood.

Minutes later Arsenal should have been ahead but Saka’s goal-bound effort deflected off Victor Lindelof’s knee and just over the bar to the relief of the Man Utd defender.

Both sides have further half-chances to add to the score-line during the closing stages but there were to be no further goals so the spoils were shared at Old Trafford.
