Arsenal star suffers injury setback after only just returning to action

Arsenal star Kieran Tierney has suffered a setback in his recovery from a groin injury and has been withdrawn from the Scotland squad for their upcoming games during the international break, according to the Scottish Sun.

Tierney joined Arsenal in a £25m deal from Celtic in the summer but was forced to wait to make his debut as he arrived in England still recovering from a niggling groin injury that hampered him towards the end of last season.

The left-back started his first game in an Arsenal shirt after coming through an impressive 77-minute run out during a 5-0 victory over Nottingham Forest in the third round of the Carabao Cup last week.

Tierney was expected to be named in the squad that took on Manchester United in the Premier League on Monday night and was in-line to return to action with his country by being included in Steve Clarke’s squad for their upcoming double-header.

However, the defender didn’t travel with the Arsenal squad to Old Trafford for last night’s 1-1 draw with United and the Scottish Sun suggests his absence was down to a setback in his recovery from his groin issue.

The newspaper says Tierney has now been forced to withdraw from the Scotland squad ahead of their games against Russia and San Marino following talks with the Arsenal medical team.

And worryingly for the Gunners, the report says the 22-year-old is now a major doubt for Arsenal’s Europa League group stage clash with Standard Liege on Thursday night.

There is no indication as to how serious Tierney’s setback is but hopefully it’s just a minor issue and his withdrawal from the Scotland squad is just precautionary with Arsenal not wanting to push him too soon.

It would be a huge blow if Tierney was now facing another spell on the sidelines as he’s going to be a major addition to the Arsenal starting eleven once he’s fully fit and over his groin issues.

Let’s wait for more updates over the coming days but fingers crossed these reports of a setback are exaggerated and Tierney is still on-schedule with his return to the Arsenal first team set-up.
