Mohamed Salah suffered no serious injury after limping off during Liverpool’s win over Leicester and could still be in contention to face Manchester United after the international break, according to the Liverpool Echo.

Salah needed treatment to his left ankle after being on the receiving end of a horror challenge from Leicester midfielder Hamza Choudhury during the closing stages of Saturday’s dramatic clash at Anfield.

The Egyptian international limped off to be replaced by Adam Lallana in the 92nd minute just seconds before Liverpool won the game with a controversial last gasp penalty after Sadio Mane was adjudged to have been fouled in the area.

There were genuine fears Salah may have seriously damaged ankle ligaments which would have ruled the attacker out for a number of weeks and dealt Liverpool’s hopes of winning the title a significant blow.

However, Liverpool fans can breath a sigh of relief as the Liverpool Echo are one of a number of media outlets reporting today that scans have shown Salah suffered no major damage to his ankle.

The report says the attacker simply twisted his ankle following the Choudhury challenge and Liverpool are confident there is no long-term damage so Salah isn’t facing an extended spell on the sidelines.

Salah will now use the two-week international break to recover and no doubt he will be closely monitored by the Liverpool medical team but Mirror journalist David Maddock says he should be able to resume training ahead of the trip to Manchester United on October 20.

We’ll have to wait and see how Salah’s ankle heals over the coming days but it looks as though the Egyptian has a good chance of being available for Liverpool’s trip to Old Trafford after the international break.

The news will come as a huge relief to Jurgen Klopp as losing Salah to a serious injury would have been a big blow just when the Merseysiders are in superb shape having opened up an eight point lead at the top of the table this weekend.

The Liverpool boss will be desperate to come through another tricky test when they take on north-west rivals Manchester United at Old Trafford later this month and it appears Salah has a good chance of being available for selection.
