“I’m done” – Former Arsenal man rages at Unai Emery after Sheffield United defeat

Former Arsenal midfielder Emmanuel Frimpong took aim at boss Unai Emery last night following the north Londoners disappointing 1-0 defeat to Sheffield United.

Arsenal had the chance to climb up to third in the Premier League table with a win over newly-promoted Sheffield United but they blew it after putting in an abject display at Bramall Lane.

To be fair, the game could have been very different had Arsenal been awarded an early penalty for a clear shirt pull on Sokratis in the area while Bukayo Saka was also unlucky to receive a yellow card for diving in the box when replays showed clear contact was made. VAR failed to intervene in either instance.

However, familiar problems at the back allowed the hosts to open the scoring midway through the first half when Lys Mousset poked home from close range after being left unmarked in the middle of the Arsenal area from a corner.

The Gunners struggled to get back in the game as they created very few clear cut chances as United held on comfortably to secure a 1-0 victory that leaves Arsenal sitting fifth in the table on 15 points from the opening nine games.

Many fans have now turned on Emery as the performance was just as shocking as the result and supporters are growing frustrated with the lack of progress being made under the former Sevilla manager.

Emery’s team selection was also called into question as he left Kieran Tierney and Rob Holding on the bench while Hector Bellerin and Mesut Ozil weren’t even included in the matchday squad.

Frimpong – who came through the youth system at Arsenal before breaking into the first team in 2012 – took to Twitter to slam Emery with the former midfielder questioning the selection of Xhaka and the full-backs before claiming he is ‘done with Emery’.

It’s fair to say Frimpong’s comment echo how a lot of Arsenal fans are feeling right now and the boss is going to have to turn things around quickly if he’s going to get the supporters back on side before it’s too late.

A good start would be to play Arsenal’s best players as Tierney, Bellerin and Holding would all have made a huge difference against Sheffield United last night while Lucas Torreira coming into the midfield for Xhaka is also a something a growing number of fans are desperate to see.

Emery’s treatment of Ozil is another contentious point among the fan-base and it looks like the German playmaker could outlast his manager if Arsenal’s performances and results don’t improve over the coming months.
